PRIMARY SCHOOL Newsletter No.6 15 January, 2000 Dear Parents May I wish you all a Happy New Year and hope that your celebrations were successful in which ever way you chose to greet the New Era. For those of you who succumbed to our personal Millennium Bug I wish a speedy recovery. I am pleased to say the Bug has not affected the school except for two of our many computers that did not roll over to 2000 without a little help from Mr. Smart. On behalf of the staff, may I thank you and your children for the Christmas wishes we all received. As you will appreciate, we cannot thank you all individually. VISIT TO THE DOME Unfortunately it has not been possible to obtain tickets for a school visit to the Dome this school year. We are now investigating the possibility of a visit next September /October and also listening very carefully to the reports from people who have already experienced a visit. A forty-five minute wait to get into the Body display, out of a limited day visit, does make me pause and possibly rethink the decision to take all of Key Stage 2 children. I will let you know as soon as possible of our final decision. TEACHER DAYS The remaining three Teacher Training Days have now been fixed. There has had to be an additional one this year because the Government has imposed a training day for teachers on Performance Management. MONDAY
31 JANUARY 2000 SCHOOL CALENDAR More dates have been added to the School Calendar. New dates should be emboldened. PUPILS FOR RECEPTION CLASS Places for pupils entering the reception class in September 2000 will be offered early in March 2000. Now is the time to ensure that you have applied, if you have a child who you wish to start at the school. Also I would ask any of you who have friends or neighbours who are in this position to mention to them that applications should be made as soon as possible, so that there is no chance of missing the offer date. FREE BOOKS FOR SCHOOLS We will be collecting these again, so please look out for tokens on Walkers Crisps packets, in the Sun, News of the World, The Times and Sunday Times. Thank you for your efforts last time, as a result, we acquired a good selection of books for the school library. SCHOOL MEALS MONEY Mrs Smart would like to thank all those parents who sent in the correct amount into school for the two days before we finished for Christmas and this weeks three days. However, quite a number reverted back to the old meals price of £1.10. The price of a school meal is £1.20 per day, per child.
