KNIGHTLOW
CHILDCARE LTD.
The Early Years Building
Knightlow Primary School
Hill Crescent,
Stretton on Dunsmore
To
provide high quality child care and education in a safe and happy environment
at an affordable price.
To
provide a range of stimulating activities to enable children to develop their
own interests and skills.
Knightlow Childcare uses the Early Years Building of
Knightlow C. of E. Primary School, which currently houses its reception
class. Originally used as a First
School, it is ideally suited to the needs of young children. Activities are
divided into three areas of the building:
Treetops: Treetops
room is used for 3-4 years old children.
Rainbow Room: The Rainbow
room accommodates the younger children from the age of two. Older children requiring full day care also
use this room during the afternoon.
The Club: Knightlow
Childcare’s before and after school club use the classroom at the rear of the
building for their term time and holiday sessions.
An outdoor play area equipped with play equipment
with safety surface is situated directly outside the Treetops classroom and
there is a grassed play space outside the day care room and club. A large hall
is used for indoor play for all groups.
Breakfast and the mid-afternoon snack are prepared in the Rainbow room’s
kitchen.
Parents are responsible for
ensuring that children attending the club understand that inappropriate
behaviour or language is not acceptable.
Parents must ensure that
staff know who will be collecting their child.
Staff should be informed of
any essential medical information and any changes in working times or place
should be notified for our records.
Parents will be charged if
children are absent without notice for whatever reason. Parents must inform the club if their child
will not be attending when they have been booked in.
Parents should try to ensure
that the opening and finishing times are observed. If children arrive early or leave late staff have no time for
preparation or clearing up.
Children may be registered
for as few or as many sessions as you wish. Late bookings will depend upon
availability of places.
Children may bring play
clothes and trainers to change into at the club.
Children should wear working clothes for nursery as
they are very likely to get dirty or wet.
Paint stains should be soaked in cold water before washing.
Children who are not yet toilet trained should
provide a supply of their own nappies, wipes and creams.
Only prescribed medicines will be administered by
staff (i.e. NOT Calpol).
Remember to inform staff if either parent changes
their work place or days.
We remind parents that attendance at Knightlow
Nursery does not guarantee your child is offered a place at Knightlow Primary
School.

ACTIVITIES - BEFORE &
AFTER SCHOOL CLUB
A wide range of activities are provided for the
children. We have craft sessions,
outdoor and indoor games, cooking, construction toys and board games. Computer games and television are used,
but are rationed. Books and comics are available in a quiet corner. Drama club operates on a Thursday.
ACTIVITIES -
RAINBOW ROOM
The
Rainbow Room provides a happy, safe and stimulating environment for the younger
child. They children experience a wide
range of activities, including painting, sand and water play, collage, cutting
and sticking, cooking and physical play both indoor and outdoor. Staff plan the day around a topic such as
the seasons. A daily structured activity
aims to enhance each child’s skills and to help children to learn through play.
Children
develop self confidence and learn to relate both to other children and to
adults. Each child’s needs are met
individually and their progress is monitored through the year. Records are kept
of their achievements, which staff are happy to discuss with parents, who are
always welcomed into the nursery.
NURSERY
CURRICULUM FOLLOWED BY
THE TREETOPS
ROOM
Children are provided with a carefully planned and
balanced learning programme, which identifies individual needs and enables
progress to be monitored, assessed and recorded to fulfil statutory
requirements. The Department of
Education’s document ‘Early Learning Goals’ forms the basis of this curriculum.
Work is topic or subject based and children
experience a variety of teaching methods.
The nursery provides a stimulating environment where children’s ideas
and achievements are valued.
Language and
literacy
-. Children are encouraged to develop
their language skills by expressing their own ideas and listening to those of
others. They are provided with a wide
range of pre-reading opportunities and experience writing through drawing,
painting, pattern making and, where appropriate, forming letters. Early writing skills are developed through
activities such as message writing, Christmas cards, and taking orders from
menus, many of which are spontaneous.
If children are willing to write their own names they are encouraged to
do so.
Mathematics - children are encouraged
to develop concepts such as sorting, matching, ordering, weighing and looking
at shapes. This is achieved through
play, number songs and practical situations which can also include counting and
recording numbers.
Knowledge and
understanding of the world - children are encouraged to explore, observe and question in a wide variety
of activities. They also develop
design and construction skills.
Creative
development
- throughout the day children express their creativity through painting and
drawing, modelling, sticking, dance and drama.
Physical
development
- children learn to control their bodies through a wide variety of activities
such as running, jumping, climbing and by practising skills like cutting and
sewing.
Personal,
social and emotional social development - children are encouraged to form good
relationships with other children and with adults, they learn to share and to
become caring and independent.
Special
educational needs - parents of children with physical or learning difficulties are
encouraged to liaise closely with the S.E.N. co-ordinator and other agencies so
that the needs of their child can be assessed and appropriate action taken.
Home links - when a child expresses a
desire to practise new skills we encourage parents to respond at home. Children who wish to will be involved in
IMPACT maths. These activities
emphasise sharing between parent, child and nursery. Parental involvement in a
child’s education is welcomed and the nursery acknowledges its importance.
Parents receive an annual written report on their
child. This describes their strengths,
their needs and their progress.
Additional detailed records are kept of each child’s progress, which is
available by appointment.
