| All "Strettons" take their name from some great road. In this case the Fosse Way to the east. Stretton is from the Roman name for "farm on the road". The Dunsmore was presumably added to distinguish this Stretton from any other. Dunsmore itself (sometimes referred to as Dun's Moor in older texts) was an area of heath stretching from the current M6 to Harbury. It's apparent narrow shape due probably to the distance ancient Romans were prepared to stray from the Fosse. |
