| Ryton is actually quite a common name and is taken to mean 'the rye farm'. The type of soil and topology lend credence to thi theory. The Dunsmore was presumably added to distinguish this Ryton from any other. Dunsmore itself (sometimes referred to as Dun's Moor in older texts) was an area of heath stretching from the current M6 to Harbury. It's apparent narrow shape due probably to the distance ancient Romans were prepared to stray from the Fosse. |
